October 2010 I completed the crafting of the platform Boskoi. Boskoi is an Android application and website that supports urban foraging. Or as described on the website:
Boskoi is a free, opensource mobile app that helps you explore and map the edible landscape wherever you are. Named after the greek word for grazer or browser the app lays out a map of local fruits and herbs and allows users to edit and add their own finds.
FoAM came up with the concept and with help from Maarten van der Mark and Vincent Vijn, I created the entire platform in 4 months.
Boskoi Android app
Both the website and the Android application are based on the Ushahidi platform, which is a great open source reporting platform. I ended up almost completely rewriting the Android version and decided to redistribute the source code of the platform. More details about the source can be found on Boskoi/open
The application is made for Android devices running version 1.6 and up. It has been tested working on versions 1.6, 2.1 and 2.2. If you want to try it, Boskoi can be found in the Android Market. Just search for ‘Boskoi’ or capture this QR-code with your favourite barcode scanner.
